How to be a Martial Arts Parent

What sucks is the parents that treat a dojo as a cheap babysitter while the kids don't want to be there.

I'll float that "no parents first couple of classes" idea to our kids class instructors. I can see some negatives but the positives may outweigh.

You do know these things don't happen in "class" normally. They happen when the child is invited to private lessons, or to come over to the coaches home, and all that sort of stuff.

I think any organisation that deals with kids adopt this practice.
Which essentially boil down to Children are never to be alone with an adult. Ever. Always at least 2 adults present.
Child wants to have private lessons a parent or Adult has to be their.
School wants to have a BBQ at least two instructors should be present for the whole thing and should never be in a room alone with a child.
    ect ect

    Tell me more!

    And please... Do it slowly.

On a somewhat more serious note, if I had a nickel for every story I've heard about instructors getting it on with parents I'd be rich... And that's true even if I only count the true ones!

Ok, carry on. Nothing to see here.

So much for TKD being non-contact.

And now the government is going to be mandating martial arts in school. I can only speculate about the effects of this on future generations of students.

Japan also has the problem that before the government mandate, junior judo there had death and injury rates that make American Football look like basketweaving. Now there will be more kids, and a lower average training level for instructors.
