I once played jugga. And it was fun.

And to explain why I was so weird to my friends I did use the example of a sport where you dress up in funny clothing and hit each other with padded fists.

The interesting thing about actual LARP is that it is fully resisted. Within its own ruleset.

I'm terribly confused by point of the OP... Canadian English translation anyone? Oh and since my knee injury last year, I now larp jinenkan style so I guess this concerns me.But I still try randori with my old jujutsu buddies weekly when my gimped leg permits me.

I suppose in a very dense and roundabout way I was trying to say that I think the term is used too vaguely. Stop the presses, I know. I'll show myself out, but not before picking on IiF.

I looked a little closer; is this what you're talking about?

I think paintballing is a form of larping. Thing is, it is a step up from Arma because paint guns are closer to modern times.

The way I read that, it looks like you're equivocating LARP with hobby. We probably agree that there's great value to be had in hobbies, but I do demur at putting bow hunters and fishermen in the same pot as a man in costume profusely declaring "magic missile". Why would you do that?

I always assumed that the Bullshido use of the term "LARP" was intended to compare delusional martial artists to the people who play pretend in costumes, and that it was distinct from actual LARPing. This is the only place I know where "LARP" is an insult.

I can't remember now whether I assumed it was the same everywhere or I encountered it elsewhere and came to know it as an insult. How is it used elsewhere?

Probably insultingly if people are aware of the term - I don't think there's a whole lot of middle ground between LARPers and their detractors.
