    Starting a Judo club

    Hey guys,

So i'm in the UK. I've got a really good coach who doesn't have his own club but helps out loads at someone elses. Said coach is willing to teach a class in his own right if I can find a venue/mats/suitable time etc. My question to you guys is has anyone started a martial arts club from scratch? How did you go about finding a venue and getting mats? Any tips or pointers?

    Thanks!

Is your coach registered with / is a member of the BJA?

You should contact them first as they're likely to have information regarding insurance, grants etc.

It's always worth a shot, but they may need to speak with him, as he would be the black belt running the club.

So your coach is not willing to source the premises or mats or find the time or speak to the BJA, but you think he is going to be the instructor at this club that you don't know how to set up that you are going to set up?

Top marks for ambition but I suspect your friend doesn't share your enthusiasm for the venture.

Why not just train where your friend already helps out?

I suspect you're wrong. I do train where he helps out but they only train twice a week there.
