Oh its the Akban guys. They've been discussed on Bullshido before.

IIRC the consensus was that they're pretty tough, more by virtue of being Israelis than because they do Ninjutsu.

Trained with them, their only reason for not sucking balls is that they cross train (independently) Mainly judo, their stand up sucks. They spar some. But most of the time went to drilling complicated escapes and take downs. My friend that trained there for 4 years (at the time i checked them out) did not show any stand up, and not much grappling, mainly because so much stuff is taught (weapons/grappling/standup etc.).
I have to add something good about the place, to reach a high level belt you must (not encouraged but must) cross train and reach at least a brown level belt in something like judo (that is what they preferred) so that tells you that these guys are serious enough. The coach and high ranking guys had good grappling and looked tough enough, but again if you just train their method without crossing with something like MT or judo than even after 4 years (my friend as an example) you would do much better in taking just judo or just bjj or MT boxing etc.

Its not like aikido, more like Japanese jujitsu, with all those complicated escapes from a stationary position.

If you say so. I don't know a whole lot about traditional jujutsu, but I'm seeing things in there that bear a striking resemblance to stuff I was doing at an aikido seminar on Saturday, including at least one wrist lock that is an aikido staple.

That is definitely true. I've seen kotegaeshi in FMAs, CMAs, kajukenbo... the list goes on. Maybe I just don't know enough about JJJ to understand the distinction Erezb is trying to make.
