Fake Breasts Banned in Louisiana MMA Competition

In an article for Vice's "Fightland", Josh Rosenblatt covers the Louisiana Boxing and Wrestling Commission's recent rules change on the subject of female fighters with breast implants. In a meeting this past week to discuss the topic, Commissioner Harold Williams stated, “If [women] want to look good, then they don’t have to be in the ring.”

Just in case you were hoping that the rise of Ronda Rousey and the success of Invicta had wiped out Americans’ strange, paternalistic fears about women’s MMA, on Wednesday the Louisiana State Boxing and Wrestling Commission passed an emergency rule prohibiting women with breast implants from fighting in sanctioned matches unless they get a letter from the doctor who performed the surgery.

I started a thread about this a few days ago:

What this sounds like to me is less a case of misogyny and more a case of the Louisiana Boxing and Wrestling Commission covering its ass by making sure all the potential blame falls on the doctors and the fighters rather than them.

What about women who have had an implant due to a mastectomy, or are they suposed to go the full Amazon?
I vaguely recall Sarah Kaufman mentioning that she fought a girl and the girl's implant popped during the fight (or something along that line). So that is something.

I guess my question is what angle the Commisioner is coming from. How exactly does looking good and fighting in the ring become mutually exclusive?? or at least what does one have to do with the other?? No mention of safety or health hazards, just looking good or fighting.

I can't see a bloke having enormous fake balls being inserted though a couple of steel ones might be cool.

It's a legitimate medical concern if enough doctors agree.
"We often joke -- and we really wish it were a joke -- that you will only encounter two basic problems with your 'self-defense' training.

    2) That it does work"

I can see the concern from a medical standpoint. Most are saline now, correct? No silicone wandering through the body from a burst bag.

Ironic though. A man can remove one thing, add hormones and fight as a woman. A woman adds two things to 'enhance' the womanly things she already has and possibly can't fight?

A lot of the female professional wrestlers have implants and they take a lot of chest hits. I wonder if there are any statistics on their "burst rate"?
