    Cut Class

We had a cutting class tonight. What a blast.

How often do you guys cut stuff during kali class?

We do 2 or 3 a summer, and while these nights are as much free commercials for my instructor as they are kali class, seeing yourself on video cutting stuff can help a bunch in fixing technique.

Once a year, usually post halloween. Last time I filled my pickup with pumpkins for about $10. The year before we raided the fall clearance of beach mats from Big Lots for $1 each, they made a nice stand in for tatami when properly soaked. Tatami is a much better measure of success than pumpkins, straw really shows your errors.

Cut class for me means not going.

We don't really do test cutting, but when I walk FedEx packages to the delivery box for work, I practice my attacks on a couch tossed next to a dumpster. Been working the thrust>turn palm 180>cut out technique with a folding knife.

Also, you're one of Ron Kosakowski's students? How do you resist buying ALL THE SWORDS?

We have a training camp in May and September. Friends of mine own a campground, so there's no problem with us bringing every sharp implement known to man. Typical targets are cardboard tubes of varying thickness, including one we found where the walls were over a centimeter thick - I wagered a free month's classes to anyone who could chop through it in one shot.

Here's me with a ginunting, cutting through a tube strong enough to stand on (when laid on its side)

It's the power of the wife, mortgage, and kids that keeps me from buying ALL THE SWORDS. I do have a barong, the sanduko/daga set, a ginunting, a few hardword sticks, a karambit, and a few pakal knives. I'm torn between the talibong and the garab for my next purchase.
