Does anybody have any videos of "good" Kusarigama work? I can see a few on Youtube but I have no way of telling good technique from bad.

A quick FYI on various forms of kusarigama:

(IIRC that chain with a long spiky thing is also called a kusarigama by Hoten Ryu)

There are multitudinous and perhaps conflicting views on what constitutes "good" technique; if the question is one of efficacious person hurting, you might look at something like the Tendo Ryu and say "well, they maintain control of distance, can handle the weapon well and the kata is short and sweet", but it's still a kata and I can't help but think that the person with a tool that actually makes killing simple and easy would pose a conundrum for the aspiring Edo emo.

It looks like Masaki Ryu, and since it's a kendo event I'm guessing it's the Masaki Ryu partial to Suio Ryu.

I have fucked around with one of these before. And it can get pretty hairy to use. The chain should be long enough that the weight ends its movement by bouncing off your arse.

Weld the links or at some point you will get a missle.

And you are fine while it is moving generally just watch out when it stops.

Admit it: you prefer spiral galaxies to any other kind, don't you?

I am torn. The ninjer in me loves it. The JMA pedant in me hates it.

So, I'll just ask: how long is the chain? How heavy is the weight? And how is the blade attached?
