Ah, I didn't notice the "equivalent" in there. My point is that Taiji has less "Ipon"-type throws, at least in the forms.

I just watched that footage. All of the Taiji fighters are Tuishou champions and the Thai MT champions. Weight, height, well-matched. They said they wanted to represent Chinese Gongfu. They are definitely training for Sanda rules. I heard no mention of K1 and I seriously doubt they would be used now. Sanda versus Thai fights happen all the time and appear to use Sanda rules. This is looking interesting again.

Apparently the results are coming out, matches were 3-2 with Chen taking the lead, winning the three heaviest weight classes in the competition. Still waiting on video.

Please post a link if possible...I know I would be very interested to see how it played out! Do you know if they stuck with the K-1 rule set?

These three vids were put up on the Chen Facebook page. At the very least, it wasn't K1 rules after all, or at least the Chinese players were allowed to break them at will.

You should have seen the reaction to this on reddit. First they were all hur, hur, those tai chi guys are going to get their asses kicked. Then when it was announced that the Chen guys won 3 out of five matches the redittards were all wagh, what are you saying!? It's the martial artist not the martial art. Those MT guys were cans. This is just Chinese propaganda!!!

    Fucking reddit.

to be fair, did you watch those fights? im only watching the first one but really, its a fairly obvious setup. although this seems to be par for the course over there.

interestingly they do have a legit kickboxing circuit in china. two of my gyms fighters are living and fighting over there at the moment and we have had some of their guys over here for fights, and they are the real deal. those are the cats they need to be contacting.

It looks very much like san da rules. In the first fight it looks like an older Thai showed up for the payday and didn't bother to train for the ruleset (he's taken down pretty much at will). The second one can't have been a win for the Chinese fighter (they don't show whose hand is raised), as he was outmatched in all areas. The third looks like a mismatch benefitting the Chinese fighter.

In terms of this site's mandate, they all looked like they'd do fine in a self-defense situation.
