[VIDEO] 1927 Foil & Dagger Salle LaCaze (silent)
No, not that sort of foil.
Found some footage of foil and dagger fencing training.
Hope there's more footage of it around, looks like good fun.
I live to serve:
This footage is from a 1934 newsreel, so chances are that some of the young boys featured in the 1927 clip are seen as teenagers in this one.
The foil and dagger system was a collaboration between Maitres Lacaze and Georges Dubois, who was also one of the most serious "historical fencing" revivalists of the early 20th century. The aim in this case wasn't to recreate a particular historical system, but rather to create a "new" fencing sport inspired by certain aspects of rapier and dagger play.
See http://freelanceacademypress.wordpre...rime-ancienne/ for more on Dubois; N.B. that this article is excerpted and abridged from the book "Ancient Swordplay: the Revival of Elizabethan Fencing in Victorian London", which is available here - http://www.freelanceacademypress.com...swordplay.aspx - or via Amazon.
Dubois' illustrated essay (in French) on his "foil and dagger" system is available via PDF here - http://www.freelanceacademypress.com...scrime_FAP.pdf .
Good stuff, unfortunately the French is beyond me but I always like the style of illustrations used in these type of documents.
