Not surprising. He is probably still a part of the CCL, just not the current editor of their publication.

    Well done Phrost-

I took a super passive person (female colleague) to a boxing and then an MMA event we sat ring side, blood splatters and all. She could easily have been this Fritz Spencer guy in a dress the way she looked at the boxing event, in the beginning. Although collected, she admitted it troubled her to see someone get knocked out.

Interestingly, at the MMA event, no so.
First she was intrigued by the crowds at the boxing, AND enjoyed being ringside AFTER the event, as many of her friends called to tell her they saw her and how the hell did she rate that? (the violence notwithstanding)

She loved the MMA, because it was cerebral and after meeting some fighters who were well educated, and one in particular taught her the origins of things like pankration, she became a fan of sorts. This is THE example of why MMA is so popular and just beginning.

Fritz is a weak and sorry ass example of a man. He would be against Harley Davidson motorcycles, push ups, and whiskey. The guy panders to weakness by way of a collar and uses a pulpit to hide. He was most likely picked on as boy due to his estrogen laden body and never did his balls drop.

We would PAY to see this asshole run out of gas in South Dallas, or East LA.

THANK GOD! those Romans did the right thing and banished Atilius after that collapse, yet created and corrected their building codes.

This Fritz asshole lives under the very code the Romans accepted to prevent such catastrophe's, as the construction was error not the fights...he is nothing but lion fodder.

The thing that bothers me most about Fritz, and people like him, is that they want to enforce weakness. They see a threatening thing, MMA or Harleys or whatever, and want to get rid of it. They want everyone to be weak, like them. So they strive to change laws, make new rules, and legislate away what frightens them.

For now, they have no real chance of getting rid of MMA. But Maine has the oldest population in the country; and old people hate noisy and scary stuff, and they vote.

I'm not sure who's more irritating: Christian anti-martial arts people or Christian pro-martial arts people

With all the atrocities carried out in the name of religion all I can think to comment is, get your own house in order before you criticise others.

Well hopefully the fact that the guy is quoting things from antiquity will disqualify him as a serious debater on the issue of MMA. I have confidence Mainers will see this guy as a crack pot and simply look past him.

Maine seems to be good at producing neurotic wretches - some glorious like Stephen King, some like.... this.

24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”

But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”

    “Jacob,” he answered.

28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,[a] because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”
Not only was God into wrestling but the winner of this championship match won a nation to be buit after him.

with all due respect to any Christians, one doesn't even need to get into or analyze anything religious to simply say:

if you feel MMA is against your Christian beliefs DON'T GO TO MMA EVENTS. its really that simple.

But it isn't that simple, it never is. You and I both share that belief, don't like it, don't watch it. But if someone who is religious does not like something, they frequently can't let it go. They can find some part of scripture they point to that backs up their claim that said practice is "sinful".

Then they get the "masses" (pun intended) all riled up. If you are a fan of MMA, or even worse, a fighter, you now have a fight on your hands. And it is a fight that will never, ever, stop.

The Christian Civic League of Maine, and others like them, will not stop trying to get rid of what they don't approve of. If the author of that article is not alone in his view than MMA in Maine will face endless challenges.
