No, but it makes for a more interesting and amusing demonstration and shows the monumental advantage his training gave him. It gives us a different perspective than if he did it against an equally skilled opponent (Which, incidentally, is one reason why training noobs every now and again is beneficial to see how far you've progressed).

Plus, it provides a good argument to use against stupid people who think entering Streetrealm means automatic death for sport fighters.

That's all good and well, but the "It works on an untrained opponent." stance is bullshit.
That has been a mainstay of non-alive arts and ridicule on this site.
Hell Systema looks impressive on and to noobs.

Not if you have to preface it with a bunch of caveats.
We won't even touch on lava, aids needles or glass; but no kicks, grabs or bodyshots?
Oh he's tired so bending at the waist is ok, besides, no kicks?

Hell he even feints a couple of counterstrikes, bending if not breaking "the rules" it would seem.

    Oh wait, "rules"?

    Yeah, some street demo...

    More like
"You box shittily and I will evade. Deal?"

    "Deal."

    Color me unimpressed.

    From 2002:

In theory, wouldn't all real MA designed for fighting work on the street against an untrained opponent(except for a few i.e SCARS, and other such Mcprograms), and people on the street DO NOT know how to box well, contrary to popular belief. (Whether it be a Thai kick to the head or a double-leg take down, the guy isnt gonna know what you're gonna do or what you're capable of doing.

    and the first three responses:

    yes.
For the most part, yeah. I think the problem lies with the recognition that while it isn't likely that you'll be fighting someone with training, it's very much in the realm of possibility. So yeah, you can use impractical arts against the untrained -- but not against the experienced. Isn't that the point of martial arts. To increase your chances against a skilled opponent?

Yeah, but wouldn't the opponent you're facing on the "street" likely be tough and experienced in fighting, hence your having to fight them? If this is the case the situation might be somewhat different.

They're most likely to also be more aggresive than you are as well.

So yeah, it's not exactly a novel position i'm taking.

The term "untrained opponent" brings up dozens of hits along the same tone, when doing a search on this site.

I bet Chris Weidman loves this video.

Oh because that was a fight?
Or was it because attackers on the street wear huge boxing gloves?

He looked a bit taller than all but one of them, and he had to use a lot more hand parrying with that guy.
He got tagged a few times by the second guy, by my reckoning, so he didn't do what he claimed he could.

I did this to prove that the simple head movement techniques that I teach can make random people miss every single punch they might throw in a street fight.

    Fail.

"It's not a boxing match. I'm not trying to block my head with my hands or my shoulder. If I made a video where I just defended myself correctly, no one would give a ****. If it would make you happy, come on out to PA and we will make a video where you try to do better. Feints are part of fighting... you're not splitting the atom here bro."

It's like the video poster is advocating Boxing as the only thing someone should learn for self-defense. It's not like he said that head movement was the only thing you'll need to learn. If you look at his developing channel, you'll see he's does show grappling and kicking technique as well. He only showing one aspect of one art that could help you a lot in a street fight.

Can you actually say that punch slipping and head bobbing is bullshido and that it'll *only* work against untrained opponents.

is bullshit and not at all supported by the video.

He still got hit in the face even though he used more than just head movement, they were wearing gloves and he was taller than most of them.
