    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Gennady Golovkin

I may or may not be late to the party on this one, but I just watched a fighter by the name of Gennady Golovkin destroy a very decent middleweight named Matthew Macklin. Golovkin put him away with a liver shot in the 3rd round.
This boxer from Kazakhstan now has a 27-0 record with 24 KOs. And if you haven't heard of him, I think you will soon.
He may run into some difficulty if/when he runs into a slippery defensive fighter with some power of his own. But this guy's style is what stood out to me, very effective at cutting the ring off on his opponents and his power is downright scary. You could see the apprehensiveness on Macklin's face after eating Golovkin's first power shot at the end of the 1st..
Anyways..just a heads up if you haven't heard of him. his KO percentage is impressive and something about him seems to stand out to me.
Boxing fans take note. Those body shots are brutal..
Here's a bit of a commentary on the fight. I couldn't find the actual fight on youtube yet

Here's a career highlight reel as well

I don't follow boxing as closely as I used to but, has anyone else noticed this guy ?
    Eddie ? IIF? Tranquil ?

What makes it better is he is exciting to watch, not boring like some other Slavic fighters who shall remain nameless.

Yeah, he's one to watch. He's been featured in Boxing News (UK weekly) for some time. I was watching him last week but haven't seen the full Macklin fight yet as it wasn't on Box Nation and was probably on SKY - which I don't subscribe to because I can't stand that **** Murdoch.

    Cheers

The Ring Magazine recently released the annual Top 100 fighters issue ( I get one every year in my x-mas stocking) and Golovkin was ranked 5th (?). I think he should be third.
While hasn't fought much in the way of elite talent , it isn't for lack of trying. He will need to seek out, or be sought out, by boxers in other weight classes to make the best fights possible happen. Rubio was supposed to give him fits, and GGG destroyed him.
    He is now 31-0 with a KO% of 90.
Golovkin's next scheduled bout is on February 21st against Martin Murray.
You want a reason to get excited about Boxing again ? This middleweight is it.

Yeah, you could also check out Sergey Kovalev, at Light HW. Concussive puncher and recently beat Bernard Hopkins. He also handed a beating to Nathan Cleverely.

Apart from him, I remain impressed by Terence Crawford. Very skilled and capable.

Also Vasyl Lomachenko, Featherweight, who is just amazing. He also beat Gary Russell, who had earlier impressed me and I thought he was odds-on to be a marquee attraction.

My mistake, Eddie. The Ring actually ranked him 10th..mainly because of the aforementioned detail regarding quality of opposition.
I have watched Kovalev..obviously. Hard hands, to be sure.

Another fighter I like is Ruslan Provodnikov. He floored Algieri twice but failed to put him away..then it was Algieri who went on to a big payday with Pacquiao. Provodnikov has been in a couple of fights that could have gone either way the past year..he is one to keep an eye on.
If we could just get some excitement in the HW division now..
    Happy New Year,Eddie !

Yes, I've seen Ruslan Unpronouceable. He's been in some exciting fights.

I watched Pacquiao v Algieri, which was live here in London via cable, BoxNation, yep, I'm a subscriber :-) I though Algieri should have been saved by the Ref when he took that heavy knockdown. FFS, you don't need a brave Ref.

Re HW, yes, i'll be looking at Deontay and more. He puts me in mind of Teofilo Stevenson and his Triphammer Right that KO'd Duane Bobick in the Munich Olympics (if I recall correctly). He'll shake things up.

Best to you for 2015, mate. :-)

Chavez realizes that his star is falling fast and is trying to build up a payday fight.
Golovkin would take him out inside of four rounds.

Golovkin can only box the opposition that is out there, and fighters are not in a hurry to get in the ring with this guy.
It would be nice to see him get in there with someone who can at least challenge him a bit. Last Saturday's fight outcome was a no-brainer.
