Not unless someone (i.e. your mom) is using full resistance to prevent you from doing so in a non-choreographed fashion.

RepulsiveMNKY: Thx for making me realize how much I miss all that sh*t. I've been taining, but not fighting. Teaching, and working out with students doesn't really help, except to flesh-out stuff in my head. I can only get some 'real' taining in once a week, so just for 1-3 hours. I voted 1-2 b/c that one day I do have, there's an odd number of guys, so we switch off a lot.

with all due respect guys...you have WAY too much time on your hands and you're not using it properly.

6+ hours...10 hours?!?! a week of ACTIVE SPARRING? Let me guess, you hit the heavy bag for 3 hours a day too? assuming you're using any intensity, along with drills, etc. I would say I couldn't possibly fit more than 4 and still maintain any type of real life (y'know, like posting here...:p)

Actually, El Tigre Carmesí makes a good point. What proportion of your overall training (especially for you guys that clock in 10 hours a week of hard sparring) do your FHW take up?

I was sondering if anyone was going to notice that. Take Colin's example for example:

Time spent sparring all up? At least 5 or 6 hours..
So if 1 class = 1 hour that's 7 hours of class time with up to 6 hours of sparring? Or even if it's 2 hour classes that means HALF of every class is just sparring!?!

Sparrings great but even pro boxers don't spend 80 fucking percent of their time free sparring.

I voted for 3-4hrs but if there was a 2-3 I would have picked that. That's based on 4 approximately 2 hour classes a week about half is spent sparring or rolling.

Omar, you are forgeting that rolling is much less damaging than a boxers sparring so you could do it a lot more without getting hurt.

Voted 1-2 hours. It's about 90 minutes a week, out of 8.5 hours of training a week.

All of it is Kali sparring, too (Rattan, helmet, gloves, done. Our instructor "wants to avoid giving the impression that sparring is soft". I love him for it, but hell it hurts.).
Taijutsu sparring is rare enough that calculating a per-week average would just be silly.
