This is one reason that it is tough for me to get new students because they think this is what I will teach them.
Really? That is the reason? It has nothing to do with your marketing tactics, demographics, location, economic situation of your area, and other factors. It is because some Korean kids are adding some performance to their demonstration. That is the reason. ~sigh~ I have been through this debate so many times it is not even funny. I have read through most of the thread and IIF pretty much covered the points.

The bottom line is that the XMA movement (for better lack of a title to give it) is not going away anytime soon. Kids, want to do something different than just the regular routine of their class. These programs are just that, programs. Something to help bring in students. Who said that you had to structure your entire system around it? We teach competition martial arts which includes creative and "extreme" martial arts. This class meets twice a month for 1.5 hours. We charge $25.00 a month, the result, I have 12 kids that are enjoying being more creative with what they are learning. I have 12 kids that are working harder in their traditional classes because part of the agreement when they sign up for this competition class is that they have to be doing well in their regular class, attending regularly, and setting examples for the others. If not they are not permitted to attend this extra class. Best part is, I make an extra $300.00 a month that I use to sponsor kids who can't afford to go to tournament, or donate to a local charity, or selfishly spend some of it to buy myself and instructors lunch.

I am not saying you need to start it to stay in business, I'm not saying you have to like it, but bottom line I do not fee that this is what is killing your business.
