    Cardio for Wrestling?

Since I'm banned from the gym by my dad for a few weeks (strained a muscle on a deadlift. He's scared I'm gonna go strain another one), what can I do at home to build cardio for Wrestling? I'm mainly asking this because I've been reading along and apparently running is detrimental to combat sports-related events.

My team is taking a month off of practice due to CIF rules, so no conditioning there either.

High intensity interval training (HIIT). Find a rowing machine.

Running isn't bad, just don't do big bucketloads of it.

This! That's the cardio that is going to cary over into wrestling the most. Running is only going to help you run better.

I went to a clinic where the Navy wrestling team came in and showed how they train. When they showed their cardio training it was exactly what DHJr said. Even the heavyweights were standing in one spot with a pool of sweat under them on the mat and they were just standing there knocking out reps of squats, sprawls, burpees, sit outs, penetration steps....

That's going to pay off the most for you.

    Well agreed!

3 more great cardio exercises for wrestling are:

    1. Skipping rope
    2. Running Hills
    3. Running stairs, try running you whole stadium, carrying dumbbells if you can

I think intense intervals of the following would help, given the aspect of moving more weight than just your own...

    Turkish Get Ups
    Chopping Wood (great for explosion)
    Farmers Carries

And here's where I start to look crazy.............. take a Pilates class. Ii think you'd be surprised

    That's my piece.

I always find jumping rope, running, and biking to be the best. Stadiums are my favourite
