A weird thing people do is assume that grappling = staying to fight only, while standing and striking = using it to escape only.

You completely miss understand - OBVIOUSLY grappling is climbing on top of your opponent like an octopus while you inherit his very soul as part of your own being and the very life drains out of him. Of course this requires every single one of your limbs and you require someone in the crowd to yell 'Fatalaty' in their most macho manly voice.

It's funny how I haven't been in a fight since I was seventeen. Deciding to join the military and become a better person might have something to do with it. If you are very worried about your ground game, just become an adult and avoid situations in which you might have to fight. Or, learn how to fight on the ground. The former is probably the better idea, unless you want to fight competitively, in which you won't find 17 other people stomping on you.

As I tell my students, three important elements that contribute to getting into a lot of fights:
    - being male
    - being drunk
    - being 20 or younger.

#4: Standing near anyone with the first three, at any age.

    This.

Every time I've had to avoid a fight its because of being in the vicinity of someone meeting the above criteria.

It's one of the main reasons I quit drinking...that and the price.
Though exchange 'male' for 'female' as long as the drink and age are the same the fights still occur. Though with women it seems a lot more vicious :(

I knew a young lady at school who kept a large set of particularly spiky rings in her pocket. Whenever Penny started putting her rings on you knew things were going to end badly for someone.

In a multiple opponent scenario, you should NEVER try to convince 15-20 other posters that you should simply avoid the ground, or they'll start to e-stomp your avatar's head.
