    I believe that was part of it, yes.
    The fool thinks himself immortal,
    If he hold back from battle;
    But old age will grant him no truce,
    Even if spears spare him.

    Okay, are we really talking about three hundred metric tons of marijuana, or is whoever determines the street price of weed for the courts a perjurer, criminally incompetent or both?

    The "war on drugs" is absolute bullshit which ultimately, only serves to:

    a.) create an artificial, astronomically profitable commodity
    b.) create profits for the banks that launder money for that industry, turning a profit of billions for themselves
    c.) justify militarizing police forces
    d.) imprison the underclass in for-profit prisons and re-create a class of slave labor.

    Don't get me wrong, I seriously doubt that it started with this goal in mind. It's much more likely that Nixon started this with more-or-less good intentions to keep Americans from poisoning themselves into being a bunch of shiftless, unproductive hippies. But any system that gets funded with taxpayer money turns into a honeypot for cronyism, especially one that ostensibly serves the interests of easily panicked suburban white people.

    And now the whole fucking thing has taken on a life of its own to the point where essentially no politician can touch it without having to deal with the charge of being "weak on crime".

    All of that said, you've got to be a goddamn idiot to think you can play Tony Montana without going down in a hail of bullets.

    How long ago was it they outlawed the main chemical used for meth, that created the huge boom in business in Mexico, etc. Up until that time, it was cheap and easy to manufacture meth here in US, and since then meth is rampant and nothing we do will fix it...sadly.

    San Diego's East County and surrounding areas had quite a bit of cooking going on, but restrictions of pseudoephedrine moved production across the border here too.
