    MMA/BJJ schools in southern MD?

    Hello all,

Not sure if this is the correct subforum to put this in, but here goes. I'm a complete noob to MA looking for a BJJ/MMA school (or something else with a strong ground fighting emphasis) in southern Maryland, preferably within 45 minutes of Waldorf. Previous relevant threads seem to be pretty old. Anybody have any recommendations?

Found those two. I can't say for sure they'll fit you, but if you check them out you can see for yourself.

I am surprised to see anyone on this site suggesting Lloyd Irvin's school after what happened.

I was actually just doing some more looking into that while you posted that. All I did was do a quick Google search in his area to see what popped up, wasn't yet aware of who Irvin actually is.

Sorry for that first link, in retrospect I would avoid that place.

Thanks. I found those two, but was turned off by LI's spammy first impression (and the alleged rape, when I dug a bit more) and didn't see anything on here about Calvert MMA.

Head instructor at Calvert MMA is a 2nd Degree under Relson Gracie, so I'd say that place is legit. Relson doesn't promote ass loads of black belts and all the guys I met under his umbrella were pretty awesome.

What Zod said. If I were in your area I'd definitely look into Calvert. The MMA Lab here in Phoenix is where Benson Henderson trains and there's no review up that I can find here on Bullshido. There's just no way for Bullshido to have reviews up on every single gym in the nation.

I was mostly looking for a "hell no, don't," if applicable, since I don't have much basis for comparison. I'll give Calvert a try.
