It is kind of gimmicky. I was half joking.

I'll tell you where the Judge truly stands out though. It's fucking amazing for shooting snakes.

Where snake is a euphamism for people who don't belong in your house?

If it will stop a person it will go through a wall, so your logic is off.

    Yeah, figured as much.

It's fucking ugly too, looks like it was squeezed out of the rear end of something.
Makes a Glock look downright handsome it does!

If i wanted a ridiculous hand cannon, i already know exactly which one i'd get: This http://www.ruger.com/products/superR...an/models.html in 454 Casull.

I like the .22 for it is cheap to shoot so you are more likely to have more practice with it. It will kill a man just fine. The reason I personally wouldn't go with one is I am limited to a 10 round mag. With a .22 I would want to keep plinking rounds into someone stopping power by volume.

No no no no and no. People have died, thinking their .22 is going to stop BGs. Just because .22LR is surprisingly lethal, does in no way mean it has reliable stopping power. Its way better than no gun, but it probably isn't better than a baseball bat or some other blunt weapon. You hear stories of how well a .22 worked in stopping someone or a bear or something. You hear about it because it was noteworthy, not because it happens regularly. When do you ever hear about "badguy so and so was killed.. drum roll... by a 9mm hp round!!!!!1!1!!1"

don't confuse lethality for stopping power. In fact, don't trick yourself into thinking a .22LR is anywhere close to a real self defense round in terms of both lethality and stopping power.

Repeat after me. .22 is not a SD round, by any measure. Unless you can pump about 40 rounds in less than a second, it is not a self defense round.

.22 is not a SD round .22 is not a SD round .22 is not a SD round .22 is not a SD round .22 is not a SD round .22 is not a SD round .22 is not a SD round

Okay, in my opinion, the best home defense weapon, short of a submachinegun, is a high capacity, medium to high caliber automatic, full sized handgun. Sig in .45. Cougar in .40SW. Glock 19. M&P 9mm. With adequate training and practice.

18" shotguns with a real stock are a close second, but it is still a bit too big to move around indoors.

I do agree with everything dwkfym just said.

But for clarity when I say volume
I mean crazy volume as in a 110 round drum one that can be had for a mere $70 at that.

You have a 150-200lb mass, coming at you as fast as he can. I don't think you can pull the trigger fast enouhg. Like I said, 2400rpm or go to a real SD caliber. It does not matter how big your magazine is. Its all about enough lead downrange.

The only time I'll rely on a .22 for self defense:

I've got the .480 Ruger model with a long-ass barrel for the sole and express purpose of hunting down in southern Indiana where there are wild pigs and only then because I got an awesome deal on it along with the stuff to cast and load my own bullets for pretty cheap. It's a very nice revolver, no complaints about it and it even handles the recoil admirably, probably because it's such a huge chunk of steel to begin with and the iron sights on it a quite nice as well. It has a tendency to break scopes with the recoil, though. I wouldn't buy one at MSRP, though and it certainly wouldn't be my first, second, third or fouth choice for home defense. The only thing below it is the .22s, my bolt-action rifles and maybe my girlfriend's lever-action 30-30.
