Still, I got the answer I was looking for: Get him to sign up to a real school and see what happens. Ok cool. But hey, this is the internet, no one has to care.

Tell him if anything to use it as a part of his arsenal, and learn another style as well. Kung fu is usually overspecialized. Drunk style is good for dodging and feints but movements tend to be too over exaggerated, crane uses powerful circular and sweeping attacks but it's movement are too wide and stances open leaving you vulnerable. snake has speed but lacks power, claw styles grab opponents but do not teach enough grappling. leopard has good offense but little defense. I started learning other styles once I saw how kung fu tends to focus on a certain area depending on the style.

Cross training is never a bad thing. I always thought that 5 animal kung fu was something of a complete system as I was under the impression that each of the animals filled in the holes the others lacked. Very...well rounded.

Yes, you can post a video. I would make sure that you are in it as well, and that you introduce yourself by your username so we know you are not trolling.

Now, please take note of the large print in bold in BFM's post below.

What the hell you talking about? That man is so on center it's mind blowing. If you got your wee wee out of your hand for a split second and actually thought about what he is saying, you would learn a lot.

He is a kung fu nut but has been out of practice for quite some time. He studied at an underground place for a few years but it wasent kung fu...he called it a mix of everything but made sure to be clear that it was NOT MMA, but thats not the point. He is always looking for a good kung fu place or just a martial arts place in general but 1 issue always comes up.

He thinks kung fu is simply better then everything else. Its almost like im dealing with a 16 year old sometimes, who has watched to many movies. I honestly dont know what to do. Im still looking for a martial arts place myself and I also want to give kung fu a shot but some of the arguments I hear from him make me wonder.

He FIRMLY believes in chi and all that it can (supposedly) do.

In his mind kung fu is more deadly then anything else, perhaps not harder hitting but just...better.

Most people who bash kung fu know nothing of its power.

He views the fights that you see in movies as being semi realistic and possible to some degree.

He claims the "Animal styles" are some of the deadliest fighting arts period.

He wants to learn Drunkin Fist because apparently its practical.

He wants to also, go to the Shaolin Temple and train with the monks for a few years, he claims he will come back as an amazing fighter

He just recently found a guy who claims he can teach him Wushu that can be applied in real combat and is "what Jackie Chan" knows

There are more but I cant think of anything else specific.

So honestly guys......what do I do? Am I dealing with a delusional man-child who needs to be woken up or is he perhaps on to something?? He TALKS like he knows what he's doing but from everything i've seen....yes SOME kung fu styles can be effective but none of them seem to be the "unbeatable art" he seems to be looking for.

What do I do? What do I say to him?
You do nothing, if his greatest foolishness is wanting to train in Kung fu and not BJJ or what have you, than let him enjoy it. What is the worst case scenario? he won't be ze deadly? The fact of the mater is , that training in something is better than nothing, so just enjoy what you do, and get fit.

Let me guess, you've been "cross training" in the different styles of Kung fu for a few months.
