@Ignoscant the "what if he has friends?" thing really annoys me. Do people assume that every grappler goes out alone all the time? Are grapplers entirely friendless and confrontational?

I have seen a lot of fights where people don't jump in. I think people on the outside of a fight are aware that they could get into trouble, that other people could step in as well and that they might get hurt. This is guesswork on my part, I've never been in a street fight but from what I've seen unless emotions are running high in the entire group there seems to be some trepidation about getting involved.

Having said that I wouldn't rely on it to save me.

From what I see when "friends" are involved it is usally Usin the act of breaking up the fight.

Really I wish I could explain peoples thinking; the 'what if he has friends' thing is just one of many idiotic 'what if's people suffering from 'what if' syndrome rely on. All of these things that apply to why BJJ won't work in the street some how magically don't apply to [insert art form] that the practitioner uses.

It really is a disease of the mind.

People that spend a lot of time playing scenarios out in their head typically suffer from a severe lack of alive training.

I don't think anyone, particularly actual grapplers, disagree that being on the ground creates vulnerability in some aspect. Saying grapplers just pull guard and dry hump people is like saying golfers just go out with the five iron and smash away. It ain't true.

I personally love the whole OMG the ground is the most dangerous place thing. Its always fun to ask them if they think its so dangerous why they are not training on how to deal with being there.
