Anyway, he would introduce me to everyone. One guy (who I won't name...peopel would recognize him, though), upon being introduced , stated ? So, Ben, you are from Texas...I here the only thing they have in Texas are steers and queers, which one are you".

I was speechless to say the least.

Because Bullshido will neither allow me to properly copy-paste or edit my posts, here's the right definition in a double post:

    noun

    *
a short amusing or interesting story about a real incident or person:he told anecdotes about his job
    *
an account regarded as unreliable or hearsay: [mass noun]:his wife’s death has long been the subject of rumour and anecdote

"Just hit him!" - the words spoken by my sensei when I was a Kyu Grade. I was talking...and he was walking toward the end of the mat to help someone.

    He was right.

He was telling the other Kyu Grade I was training with - in other words - I was talking when I should have been training. :-)

    Um, what?

STFU and train was my contribution to this thread. It had nothing to do with your post. As the dictionary states, my post was not an anecdote, hence my second statement in the same post.

I always quote the posts to which I'm referring in order to avoid exactly this type of confusion.

What does Oxford say about "ignorant lack of reading comprehension"?

You could learn a lot if you open to that page.

Yeah, my bad there. I took for granted that you might be answering the post above it without quoting it this time. I couldn't tell you why.

It said that if you went looking for that entry, you must be taking reading advice from a rabbit.

My teacher has an anecdote about a time he was in China with his teacher, who was concerned about my teacher's structure and power, so to help took him to a restaurant where they served tendon. And my teacher ate many different tendon dishes, in the belief that doing so would make him stronger.

Then at the end of the meal, after my teacher paid, his teacher explained that they were actually in the penis restaurant.

That sound you hear? The Gong of Enlightenment.

How about this one: 'An elephant does not pontificate about how he is superior to the chihuahua because the chihuahua is barking a lot and posturing while he, the elephant, is quiet and powerful.'

The fact of the matter is : the amount of trash you talk has very little correlation to your martial skill. It's just a cultural thing.

Look at Mohammed Ali, that man talked more trash than anybody except he could back it up. Mike Tyson ("my defense is impregnable" etc). Except he really did have phenomenal defense. There are people on the flip side sure, like Alexander Karelin, or Fedor Emelianenko who talk no trash and never boast and are also extremely skilled at fighting.
