Having said that, Bullshido is a massive resource for martial information, and entertainment, whether someone posts actively or not.

It would be nice, however, to have more new posters sharing their experiences in the martial arts.

The site policy not too long ago was "open season on noobs found outside Newbietown".

It was always the practice. Whichever noobs survived the process became integrated.

More regular posters taking a minute to welcome no0bs in their respective intro threads would have a positive effect.

Possibly the difference between the welcome felt if you walk into a bar, where everyone's arguing, and they all say "hey how's it going? cheerfully, and then go back to arguing, and just walking into a bar where everyone's arguing.

Compliance and integration are not the same thing.

From what I see most of the noobs are not jumped on for the sole fact that they are noobs. The noobs that get **** for the most part are asking for it. We do have noobs that stick around they start off by reading the stickies posting in newbie town and get a feel for this place. The people being jumped on are the guys that come in here and is all Teacher who is a bouncer for the secret special forces bar and would kill all you sport doing mother fuckers.

That was my assumption. If, in fact, those are lurkers and not various scripts spidering around, the lurkers will get a feel for the place, and either read and enjoy (I know lots of people who visit fora without contributing, I do the same some places), learn the rules of the road and start posting, or figure out they won't like it here and log off undramatically.

I still consider myself a noob around here, despite losing the tag.

It really isn't that hard not to get a hard time. Read the stickies, don't make claims you can't back up, don't exaggerate your skills and experience.

If you want to necro a thread, don't just put, "yeah that guy sucks, lol".

    Its not brain science.

I do approve of the slightly easier time new posters are given now, but we don't want to have to read through pages of shitposts either.

Yeah, same here. I'm both a noob and an aikidoist -- double trouble -- but no one here has hassled me because I haven't been posting stupid ****.

I'm a regular poster on AikiWeb. I like it there, but there are a couple of deluded hacks who regularly flood the boards with their nonsense because they get off on having an audience. The rest of the members (including some internationally respected masters of the art) have to endure the nonsense to use the forums because it just wouldn't be aiki to tell the idiots to shut up and let the grownups talk. I, for one, am glad the kid gloves are off here.
