oh ... retorical ...
Although I'm definitely considering a retreat at Auslander's if I can ever get it on my itinerary.
That ^ I would love to see, hell I would want to be in on that... Let me know about 3 months in advance if you're actually gonna do it.
Mad cool points for fixing my typo.
Seriously tho, you need to get your ass to a Throwdown so I don't have to keep assuming you are a clueless, loud mouthed, virtual warrior with a black belt in Wikipedia Regurgitation with a blue belt in Creative Writing.
What are you training in these days ?
Also when do you expect to receive that jo ? I would love to see some more pics of it and get your impression of it. Mor Sao usually has some pretty awesome stuff.

Dale, those wooden things look beautiful.
I am in Europe and have no spare money, so I will just look at the pictures and imagine how happy the new owners will be/are...
Would you mind sharing some details about the process of working on those staff (with photos), if it is no secret?

I had all my sticks made by a custom woodworker who is also a martial arts practitioner.
He hand planed and hand rubbed all the sticks with various grits of sandpaper until the sticks were shining and then used Tung Oil on them.
This is not done much anymore as people varnish or seal wood. I like using just hand rubbing and Tung Oil.

Yeah these kinds of exotic woods deserve to be maintained with as little chemical processing as possible. No stains, paints, or harsh sealants. Dale uses Tung oil because it is an old school Chinese waterproofing and protection agent that doesn't make the staff too slippery so that the grip would suffer.
My purpleheart jo will change hues throughout its lifetime. The grain is beautifully structured, a visual representation of its durability as a wood.
Here is a good comparison of different staff wood grains side by side. Purpleheart/Peltogyne is the 4th from the left.
So by next Monday, I will literally have major wood.

One other thing, thanks Dale for being a good online resource for not only quality MA instruction but now quality crafted items.
You know if I ordered a purpleheart jo online from some website, there is a great chance I would end up with some heavily stained and varnished thing with a Made in China sticker on it, and maybe a warning about cancer from the state of California because of whatever toxic coating is on it.

Received. Thanks Dale!
