Depending on who you believe, it was created in 1930 or was refined 1948.

Imi Lichtenfeld joined the newly founded Israeli army in 1948, commencing a 15 year period of military service with the IDF. He began to build upon the foundation of fighting principles that were comprised of his boxing, wrestling, gymnastic, and military training. This new fighting style was termed Krav Maga, or contact combat. As the head instructor of Krav Maga for the IDF, Imi was able to sift through his own knowledge and experience, as well as the knowledge and experience of his trainees, to expand the style with the most efficient methods of defense and offense possible.

The roots or history of the martial arts style of Krav Maga dates back to only the 1930's. In that sense, it does not have the lengthy story that some of the Asian-borne styles do. That said, it was first brought to the Bratislava by founder Imi Lichtenfeld in order to help the Jewish community there protect themselves from Nazi armed forces.

During the 1930s, Imi honed his fighting skills in the streets of Bratislava, protecting himself and his Jewish neighbors from local fascist thugs. He took part in numerous fights to prevent anti-Semitic groups from terrorizing the Jewish community in the city. These fights sharpened his awareness of the basic difference between sport and street fighting. It was at this time that the seeds of Krav Maga’s principles were planted in his mind.
It's a martial art, so you can look for reliable sources. This is just to show his 20 year book learning is flawed.

Having spent 2005-2010 training with the IKMF, I prefer to go with the story that its development technically began with Imi's applying his wrestling and boxing to street-fighting between 1925-30. It didn't actually become an organized system of instruction until '48, though, and as such you can't really say that "Krav Maga" existed before then. (At least, a story like that is what my instructor told on the first night of every beginning class I was part of during those five years.)

Congratulations, on your training. You do understand the point of my post right? You do understand that you just wrote an appeal to authority and basically agreed with what I wrote, you just added more words? No, what history you believe doesn't matter.

Indeed, those saw extensive use on Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

That seems rather difficult since Israel didn't exist as a nation until 3 years after WW2 ended and Nazi Germany ceased to exist.

    Cool story, bro.

Did you just start the internet? Maybe you should read the rest of the thread to get context of the post.

. . . On rereading my post all I can say is that I'm not really sure what was going through my head at the time. I think ultimately I was trying to say something like 'as I can recall, this is what a major Krav org says' and wound up doing it rather poorly. Bleh.

I'm relatively sure Rock Ape & Fake won't mind.
