In the movie the final laser is 6 megawatts. The Navy HEL shot is 100kW, about 1/60th of the movie weapon. It's pretty obvious 100kW is more than enough to kill a human. With an effective range of dozens or hundreds of miles these lasers could be used for sniping missions.

But according to this abstract, there are also "strategic" class lasers also in development in the "multi-megawatt" range...stuff still classified...

They say the laser weapons are so fast and precise they can even detonate artillery shells midflight in seconds.

Naval LaWS in the 30 kilowatt range...authorized for use. Cost: < $1 per shot.

True, the Navy still hasn't developed a Protoculture matrix.

A real truck engine lased by Lockheed Martin's new 30 kW mobile weapon.

The difference is we don't get to see such pretty high resolution pictures from the Navy's version.

LM, on the other hands, just wants to sell some frickin lasers.

    Thanks, Capitalism.

They've had at least a year, and not one laser strapped to a single shark head. It's like they don't even care.

No. If you didn't notice from the scoring on the hood of that trunk, your little mirror will melt in under a second under the energy of these lasers. It's funny how Hollywood has formed your perception of lasers, isn't it.

Are you retarded?? A truck hood will absorb the energy from a laser, where as a mirror will reflect it. Unless this laser uses a meathod other than light it would reflect off of a mirror. Please post a video of ANY laser actually melting a mirror.
