You've been overseas with the military too long.

There's a new article about one a month about someone being forced to remove a flag from their house or a student being told they can't wear a "Support the Troops" shirt or something like that.

    Civilians be crazy, yo.

Considered in the abstract the boxing ring is an altar of sorts, one of those legendary spaces where the laws of a nation are suspended: inside the ropes, during an officially regulated three-minute round, a man may be killed by his opponent's hands but he cannot be legally murdered. Boxing inhabits a sacred space predating civilization; or, to use D.H. Lawrence's phrase, before God was love. If it suggests a savage ceremony or a rite of atonement it also suggests the futility of such gestures. For what possible atonement is the fight waged if it must shortly be waged again... and again? The boxing match is the very image, the more terrifying for being so stylized, of mankind's collective aggression; its ongoing historical madness.

Did the UK ever conduct genocide against the Irish ?

Just to be clear, according to your "educative information" in the 17th Century, if a Catholic broke one of the then (ridiculous laws of the day) The British lawmakers didn't kill said Catholic, but just deported them to the West Indies.

    Cruel yes, genocide, this isn't.

We burned more fucking suspected witches than apparently genocidal acts against the Irish.

Germany only reunified in 1990, and from the end of WWII to then the country was split in two opposing states (with foreign puppetmasters) right up to when the Wall came down.

The Germany as we know it today is still a "new" (barely 23 year old) unified republic, along with having a particularly terrible history of megalomaniacs running the country. It's a testament to its "mighty northern spirit" (to quote Tolkien), that the country even survived the 20th century in one piece.
