I think at this juncture, the "point" that "stands" is that there are some phenomenally ignorant and confused assholes who think of themselves in a confused way as "Southern nationalists" but are tired of people correctly pointing out and don't want to admit the historical fact that the central purpose for the brief, unhappy existence of the so-called "nation" was the preservation, expansion, and extension of slavery.

And that you, for some fucktarded reason, think that viewing Chonan's assholery as analogous to their assholery makes what he said better.

So, yeah, there are assholes like that. But, no, that has no relevance to Chonan, and no, it doesn't make him less of an asshole.

I probably should've posted this after I got back to the states. But, if I'm sitting in a pub and some guy starts cusing me out with the most profane and poetic stream of insults followed by a black eye, I'll know who it is.
    Which pub ?

Compare with the reaction you get when bringing up slavery to a die-hard southern nationalist. It is similar.
If he hadn't made comments about Korea lying about Japanese atrocities or not caring about programs of systematic rape carried out by Japanese soldiers, we could say that he's just tired of it.

But he's not "just tired of it". He is of the same mentality as the Japanese government & those soldiers during the war.

This isn't the same as a Southerner flying the Confederate flag because he's got SOuthern Pride.

This is the same thing as a NeoNazis flying the Swastika because he wants the Fourth Reich to arise & wouldn't feel bad if a couple Jews accidentally fell into an oven.

    That's Ryo Chonan.

But my question still stands, what is the statute of limitations for genocide related butthurt
Considered in the abstract the boxing ring is an altar of sorts, one of those legendary spaces where the laws of a nation are suspended: inside the ropes, during an officially regulated three-minute round, a man may be killed by his opponent's hands but he cannot be legally murdered. Boxing inhabits a sacred space predating civilization; or, to use D.H. Lawrence's phrase, before God was love. If it suggests a savage ceremony or a rite of atonement it also suggests the futility of such gestures. For what possible atonement is the fight waged if it must shortly be waged again... and again? The boxing match is the very image, the more terrifying for being so stylized, of mankind's collective aggression; its ongoing historical madness.

And said confused an ignorant assholes still believe this to be true to the very fiber of their being. Could be the same with Chonan and other Japanese nationalists.

Not defending him, you understand, merely attempting to put his statements into a possible context.
