The National Museum of the US Air Force has an incredible collection of airframes and related equipment and weapons dating back to the Wright Brothers. I'm not a big airplane geek, but this was one of the greatest museums I've ever visited.

Bonus: You can see life-size mock-ups of every Air Force Nuclear Weapon ever in the inventory, from Fat man and Little Boy to ICBMs.

And when I was there, there was a really incredible exhibit of USAF Special Operations Forces in the War on Terror; including helicopters, ground vehicles, uniforms, personal equipment and weapons, etc.

This is all well worth the visit to Ohio.

And it's not too far from Steve and Rumiko either!

Considered in the abstract the boxing ring is an altar of sorts, one of those legendary spaces where the laws of a nation are suspended: inside the ropes, during an officially regulated three-minute round, a man may be killed by his opponent's hands but he cannot be legally murdered. Boxing inhabits a sacred space predating civilization; or, to use D.H. Lawrence's phrase, before God was love. If it suggests a savage ceremony or a rite of atonement it also suggests the futility of such gestures. For what possible atonement is the fight waged if it must shortly be waged again... and again? The boxing match is the very image, the more terrifying for being so stylized, of mankind's collective aggression; its ongoing historical madness.

I used to love going there every time we went through Wright-Pat.

Wait..of course, this is a ninja publicity photo. No wonder she's holding the sword wrong...it's a ninpo deception. So are the curtains.

    She's one sneaky ninja.

Excellent game-plan. Since Hayes has always been quite the poser, I think the photographer worked his magic. The curtains were a nice touch.

Wait... what? Damn, if only I'd known this during my last road trip. I'd passed right by/through Centerville (or a place calling itself 'Centerville'. Who knows if there's more than one...)

I could have had some fun...

That museum have anything on the Akron and the Macon?

I've always been interested in airships.

I know, I know--but before you roll your eyes any more:

Did you know that something like two-thirds of the people on board the Hindenberg walked away from its crash?

I'm guessing that a 747, blowing up and crashing from the same height, would not likely have left any survivors.
