    Choosing your MA

    Hello,

    I recently just started Martial Arts for the first time in my life a few months ago ( I am 38 ) and I love it!

    My problem is that I like all my classes and cannot decide which direction I should take my curriculum as the classes overlap

    The things I enjoy

    Jun Fan Gung Fu/Wing Chun Mon Wed
    Savate Tues
    Muay Thai Mon Wed
    Filipino MA Mon Wed

    I am not as interested in 10th planet and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu although the Combat Submission Wrestling looks interesting.

    The schedule:

    Monday

    Hour1 = Jun Fan

    Hour2 = Muay Thai
    Hour2 = Filipino MA (Panutakun)

    Do I focus on

    Wednesday
    Hour1 = Jun Fan
    Hour1 = Muay Thai

    Hour2 = Filipino MA (usually Kali)

    Is it better to just focus on Filipino and Jun Fan or just take 1 hour of Muay Thai a week and study 4 martial arts at once? Any suggestions to maximize this schedule?

    What is it that you're planning to get out of martial arts?

    As a beginner I think you'd be better served just really getting good at one. You're studying arts with some crossover though (savate, panuntukan and muay thai will probably all have a jab, for example). Even still, any one of those arts is complex enough to study on its own for at least a few years.

    Conditioning, discipline, self-confidence, and to become a human weapon

    I want to become a martial artist and I am not sure when that happens.

    You'll know, because they'll teach you the secret handshake.

    OH LAWDY LAWD! God help this man.

    Read this first:
    http://www.bullshido.org/Finding_a_g...al_arts_school

    You might want to read that because you stated Jun Fan and Wing Chun. Not that the styles are particularly bad in themselves (...kinda), but that almost all of them train without aliveness.

    Aliveness explanation

    Also, as a beginner, stick to one maybe two styles. I suggest one stand-up, one grappling if you take two. Not to mention that it's expensive as hell to pay for many MA at once.

    Also, instead of posting here, try checking out our friendly Newbietown here:
    http://www.bullshido.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=64

    Posting in YMAS is going to get you trolled.

    (10th Planet is a BJJ school that focuses on the Rubber Guard, which I find extremely interesting. BJJ is just general grappling. There are many versions of it.)

    Submission Wrestling is great. I like to think of it as BJJ with less pulling of neutral positions. Somewhat like Judo's groundgame. It's fast and furious.

    I'm going search-engining to see it the term "gunboxing" exists.

    If not, dibs.

    Rolls as smoothly off the tongue as a racial epithet.

    You'll really truly know when they show you the lethal techniques hidden inside the secret handshake.

    Nope some deluded individual on Youtube has beaten you to it.

    "How to fight close quarters when you run out of bullets" is not what most people consider an "age old question".
