Filipino martial arts in the Washington DC area!
Wanted to announce the new website for DC Lightning Scientific Arnis!
The premise of the group is to study GM Ben Lema's Lightning Scientific Arnis (LSAI) system through Master Jon Escudero's Lightning Combatives methodology. Students develop and reinforce the their strength, speed, and stamina so they can perform under pressure.
Students are able to train through a variety of modules:
- Classical LSAI
- Self Defense
Weapon systems trained:
- Solo Baston (Single Stick)
- Doble Baston (Double Stick)
- Espada y Daga/Baston y Daga (Stick and Knife/Sword and Knife)
- Daga (Knife)
- Dulo-Dulo (Palm stick/Kubaton)
- Empty Hand

If you're in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area, come check out one of our classes!
I would definitely recommend these guys.
Thanks for the information. If you have a moment, can you speak about, or even share video of, LSAI's approach to knife and empty hand? I typically think of solo baston for LSAI, but honestly have not seen much of the other stuff.
Of course! Actually, this excerpt from Master Jon's seminar from a few weeks ago speaks to your questions directly.

However, LSAI is actually an Espada y Daga system that specializes in the medya-corto range (medium and short range). All of the movement, even in solo baston, is focused on the mechanics of delivering a powerful thrust or check/slap/punch with the secondary hand. What I'd like you to pay attention to is how the checking hand (later knife) behaves in the video- specifically the timing and mechanics used. You'll note that regardless of whether there is a knife or not, the core twitches the same way, almost like firing a left cross.
You'll note this across all the weapon systems Master Jon employs as he man-handles me.
Let me know if you'd like me to elaborate further :).
Hell yes! And a shout out from LESKAS Seattle!
I've trained a bit with Mr Escudero's UK guys, really solid system with an impressive lack of bullshit.
More power to you guys.
