    Looking for Reputable School in Charlotte, NC Area

    I recently moved to the Charlotte, NC area and was looking for some reputable dojos. I'm honestly not picky about styles, I like several but I don't want to go to any school. I really wouldn't mind studying Kendo, in particular, but I also want a more hands-on MA to take. Are there any you'd recommend staying away from?

    I was burned before when I took a certain martial art for a very short time, as it was more or less a joke and even openly outed and humiliated on this forum LOL So I figured this would be the place to ask about reputable and non-reputable martial arts dojos in the Charlotte, NC area.

    I'm not terribly picky, honestly. There are a lot of styles I'm interested in and wouldn't mind trying out.

    Some styles I'm interested in are Karate, Akido, Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and Krav Maga, to name a few. I'd also like to take Kendo.

    I just want to find a few reputable schools to try a few styles out so I can settle on one to devote my time to.

    I am not really able to help in those areas. I am more of a bjj and mma guy myself.

    Have you considered FMA? GM Taboada of the Balintawak system is based out of Charlotte. I know he has instructors all over the area. If you're interested i can message some contacts to you. I always recommend FMA to martial artists with previous experience, if you've already got some empty hand training a weapons focus will add depth to your skill set. Also the carry over from weapons to empty hand in FMA will give you a new perspective on empty hand combat.

    You can also check out these folks http://www.judo-caja.com/ . They're quite reputable in the NC judo community. Also they put on a hell of a good camp every summer--Greatest Camp on Earth. http://greatestcamp.com/index.html Permanently on my summer schedule and worth every penny.
