I stopped because I didn't rate the Jow we used ( oil based ) it also had bear bile in it.

That is both interesting and scary. I have never heard of an oil based jow. I would imagine some herbs would be oil soluble. *shrug* Do you know what type of oil was used? Did you ever get an explanation of the reason for the bear bile?

My teacher makes all kinds of things, and sometimes I have found it is best not to know what is in them...

No idea what type of oil though I used to joke that he fried his sausages with it..I think it was probably a generic mass produced load of crap. Heavy menthol smell, whatever herbs were in it most likely were in a solution before the oil was added , I reckon to make it go further.

A friend who trained elsewhere told me it was no good and gave me some of his teachers Jow. This Jow really moved the blood and was profoundly better, I could really feel the difference.
On top of this my teacher at the time told us we really had to push the Jow in hard on the bruised areas, this did not feel right. When I found out about the bile I refused to buy it.

It was prepackaged from China. I also noticed it got more oily and less dark as time went on.

Yes I left that school, even tho it had some good things.

Video? You can often find them in classic training montages.

In Hung ga we also do these sort of conditioning exercises with heavy brass rings.

I don't care what anyone says... Chiu Chi Ling is badass! From what I've heard he taught my sifu's brother for a while.

Rabbit - Do you know where I can get a good deal on some rings?

I have a wholesale account with Wing Lam. I can get them for you at a great price.

    Let me know.

Thanks Dale... Starting a new job this week hopefully! Looking to buy some new toys soon. I will be ordering some of your goodies first, though.

The modern version of this is to use a weight bar and add a set of 5lb weights to play "ging catch" and then as you progress add 10/15/20 lb weights.

Dale's version is better (and safer, imo) for long-term conditioning, being that his pipe is filled with shot and not a solid metal bar.

A good pair of medium size solid brass rings is about $50. You can get discounts in bulk, Dale probably gets better (lucky).

Start with ONE RING and add a ring every few months if you train regularly. If you go overboard with the rings, you will probably just end up with a sprains and inflammation. It takes years of training to comfortably use 10 rings per arm.

Oh I forgot to add, those sandbags in the video are hung from his kiu sao, not the pole.

Ha look what I found, Sifu Sharif Bey's conditioning video, complete with weighted bar rolling.

Even some Iron Wire at the end.

    LIN GONG!
