I kao people, heavy bags but not something immovable. Its too easy to hit too hard on something immovable and overdo it and cause harm.
You also want to learn how to follow through. As hitting something with the side of the body/shoulder they are going to be projected away. You need to train how to follow them as you want to unbalance them and then finish them.

I sometimes work shoulder strikes on the heavy bag, with tai chi mechanics. I sometimes use them in moving step push hands but am careful to use it as a shove, not a strike, because they can knock the wind out of someone. I use it when fighting for the inside position and right after it makes contact the same side arm will scoop up for an underhook.

Gallon of Premade Chan Ning Tong Iron Palm Liniment
I made a few gallons of premade Chan Ning Tong Iron Palm liniment for customers and have a gallon left over.
If you buy 16 eight ounce bottles, a gallon of liniment, you would spend over 600.00.
Unlike any of my socalled competition, I offer a gallon of premade Iron Palm or Injury Liniment for $199.00 and that includes shipping within the continental USA.
I do not see this lasting more than an hour or so.
If you are interested you can call me at 781-829-9355 or paypal me $199.00 to secure the liniment to orders@daledugas.com

Dale, you are the man, sir. I wonder had I stayed in MA instead of moving to Florida when I was much younger if our paths would have crossed due to my lifelong interest in martial arts..
In my experience with Southern Dragon Style Kung Fu, we do a lot of arm and hand conditioning not so much for the purpose of breaking, but the training is somewhat similiar to what you have shown in your DVD. I want to add your iron palm regimen to my workouts, but I have a couple of questions mostly regarding the jow.
I was taught that after applying jow your hands/arms/whatever are left somewhat "open" after application and washing your hands with water should be avoided for a time (or taking a shower). What are your thoughts on this?
You mention using white or neutral canvas to avoid dyes, but I'm sure sometimes these are bleached in some fashion. Is there any potential risk in this regard?
I primarily hit a sandbag and pole for forearm conditioning and I have noticed that the veins in my arm closer to my wrist seem to get a little "lumpy" sometimes (I'm not sure how else to describe it). Is this something I should be conerned with? It is not painful in any way. I started my training gradually and have been doing it off and on for 12 years now. I always use jow when I condition and I have only ever used jow made by my teacher whom I trust.
Once I am a little better off financially, I will be purchasing some of your medicine for the iron palm eliment of my training. I am curious to see how it differs from what I currently use (especially the smell.. personally I love the smell of the stuff but I have gotten some comments sometimes if apply it to my arms and then go out in a social setting).
Thank you so much for sharing this!
BTW Keep the beard.. it makes you look all the more wisened and badass!Last edited by DimmedSum; 3/20/2013 3:19pm at . Reason: Further explanation...
