Damn straight. How petty and insecure must one be to be THAT worried about "losing" in practise?

I'd be interested to know if the instructor will still roll with him.

The "polite bite" deserves a destroyed elbow and camel clutch.

This reminds me of an encounter I had with a systema instructor who did a forceful takedown into a scarfhold, then pressed his fist into my nose hard until I tapped. He interjected himself into the pair I was working with (we were basically grappling from the knees). Thinking back, I think he took my position-based groundwork and tapping everybody out to mean that I was just using muscular force and not really learning anything, and was trying to give me a taste of my own medicine. But I was nice and relaxed the whole time, and didn't even spaz out while he was, which I think makes me better at systema. And even if I was being a jerk (I wasn't), I was a new guy and he never once told me to tone it down or anything, so poor coaching.

I agree with everything you said.
I hope that the instructor didn't bite hard and was just doing it to prove a valid point: Sometimes **** will escalate and you're going to have to deal with the consequences of leaving any opening.
I mean with all his years of experience and hours perfecting technique, he must have been trying inform your friend of some deeper meaning of the martial arts.
Surely he couldn't be such a a giant douche bag that he would rather resort to fighting like a dirty rotten hobo with rabies rather then say "Good Job, you got me."

Yeah, what a jerk. Reminded me of somthing that happened to me years ago. I was working at a bar and had to remove a very large unruly customer. I pushed the man out the door and he basically dragged me with him. It was raining and the lot was gravel. I would like to say that I did a text book take down but we both just slipped and landed on the ground. I happend to land perfectly in full mount, he tried to grab my throat and I arm barred him. He then bit my leg hard. He had a long braided pony tail and I pulled his hair with one hand and held his arm with the other. I then put it on real hard and said if he didnt stop fighting I would break his arm. He yelled go ahead and break my fucking arm. So I put it on harder and he started to scream and then started to calm down, so I let up. Then the police came and took him into custody. My leg was bleeding from the bite and I needed medical attention but it never took me out the fight. That was the only time I have ever used an armbar at work. Im not saying that biting is not effective, just that it didnt help that guy.

That sucks! Training is for training. Otherwise they may as well use real swords and hack each others arms off. WTF!

I see biting as a mostly cosmetic injury, but breaking an arm especially if you compound it can seriously **** someone up. Only a retard would escalate the force to that point while in an armbar.

Reminds me of rolling with a white belt once who tried to kick his way out of an armbar (with his heel, in my face). Not wanting to break his arm, I swept him and got him with the fist-to-throat.
He jumps up and goes "Don't do that!" and never speaks to me again off of facebook. From then on he was convinced i'm the embodiment of pan et circenses.
