superman escape from triangle?

Hey guys.

Has anyone see an escape from a triangle that involves the person who is caught in the triangle expanding both arms like superman and jumping forward/ to the side?

The way I remember the move the act of expanding the arms and jumping to the side are supposed to break the triangle, and if it doesn't you're in a bad position.


I'm asking because I tried this unconventional escape in bjj class last night and I just sort of ended up landing on top of the dude, hurting his neck, and I still got submitted.

And after getting lectured by him i was like "i would of sworn i learned this move here."

I was left apologizing and feeling like a noob.

So has anyone seen an escape similar to one i described? Or is this escape a construct of my overactive imagination?

Yeah, same concept except when the person on top is stuck with one arm in one arm out.

I was taught this as a triangle escape. The big problem with doing it that way (as opposed to omega's using it as a straight pass) is the vulnerability of the trapped arm. You have to put it in the exact right place that lets you balance on it without leaving it too isolated. It's a calculated risk.

Often he won't let me rotate all the way through, as omega does, so i'll end up with something like reverse backmount. It'll take a bit to shake your head free from there but it can be done.

Actually now that I think about it, this isn't a million miles from my Hail-Mary triangle escape. I wasn't taught it though, I just saw some guy do it at a competition once, which probably explains my success rate.

We were trying this last session and I ended up getting caught in some sort of scissor choke. I don't think I've fully got the driving concept that Omega is talking about.
