Man carrying umbrella that looked like sword arrested

RIDGEFIELD -- Police from four towns rushed here Monday morning to help local police deal with a report of a man carrying a rifle near a school.

Hours later they found the man -- who was carrying an umbrella that looked like a Samurai sword.

Police charged Wilfredo M. Seda, 22, with breach of peace.

He was "wearing all black clothing, a watch cap with a face mask looking like a beard," Capt. Thomas Comstock said. "Across his back was an umbrella but it had the outward appearance of a Samuri sword."

    ....

The man was reportedly seen with a rifle near the Branchville train station; Branchville Elementary School is near the station, but students were not yet inside the school when the report came in.

Man carrying umbrella charged with breach of peace

RIDGEFIELD -- Wilfredo Seda was arrested Monday for openly carrying an umbrella.

And also for dressing in black.

His appearance caused an uproar here Monday morning that included a police search of the Branchville and Georgetown area and routing school buses away from the Branchville Elementary School.

    ....

By police accounts, he was wearing all black clothing, and a black cap with a face mask. The mask, police said, was "looking like a beard."

He was also carrying an umbrella on his back. Police said, "It had the outward appearance of a samurai sword."

However, police said a motorist passing Seda reported that he was "carrying what appeared to be a rifle."

Why should he be charged with disturbing the peace? The imbeciles who called the police should be charged with making a false report, instead.
