I have an observation about the area and wonder if its true in the rest of the country. We have a ton of events here you could fight every month if you wanted but the local talent is ****.Im a coach at a local gym and I think I know the problem.Every gym is a specialist in one area. One place in town is great in the clinch another has great jits another is good at striking but there is no cross over.
Every gym in town is jealous and paranoid the others will steal there secrets. The question is mma turning into classic martial arts and afraid everyone will still the real deadly or is this only the local scene?**** I hope its local because it sucks for the fighters.

I blame it on all the wannabe fighters that don't wanna be true mixed martial artists, and all the BJJ coaches that don't wanna train fighters. Point is, the high level instruction is available, you just have to find it, and to find it you have to truly want to receive it, and I honestly think most "fighters" would rather take the easy way, get a little glory and then call it quits.
Then you got bay area Kung Fu "masters" trying to train MMA fighters, independent fools that just pump iron in their garage... Amateur MMA is just that. A bunch of fucking AMATEURS! lol
I do think we will see the level coming up drastically in the next few years as some of these young uns hiding in the dark corners of your local dojos start coming of age.

Im in the Redding area but we fight all the way to Reno and up into Oregon. Its just frustrating the only way for the local boys to get all around good training is to go to multiple gyms and that gets expensive fast.
Our gym does what we can with guest instructors from other gyms but the owners get wierd about It bugs me because if we could work together the fighters would reap the rewards.

Striking is what we do best. Our coaches all have backgrounds in Karate,Muay Thai or Boxing. We have a Jits guy that comes by once a week but ya our ground still sucks just not enough time.I guess the best way to describe us is sprawl and brawl.
