Randy Couture Responds to Seagal Challenge

Ok, nobody who has any remotely coherent knowledge about fighting believes Steven Seagal has a choir boy's chance at the Vatican in a fight against former UFC Heavy, and Light-Heavyweight champion Randy Couture; except maybe Seagal himself and a handful of glue-huffing Aikidoka.

So not because this is News, but because this is hilarious, here's what Randy has to say about the whole thing:

“I’m the one that started the joke as an off-handed comment I made to Jay Glazer — that I’d only come out of retirement if it were to fight Seagal. Obviously now somebody has talked to him about it and it has gotten some legs. I’m not surprised that he wants to do it in private, remote location where nobody could see it happen. Obviously I intended it as a joke. I don’t think it would really happen.”

On the subject of whether Seagal's suggestion it be a true "no holds barred" fight, Couture said: "I don’t think that changes the nature of the fight at all.”

And on the chance of this actually taking place: “Hey, it could happen organically I suppose”.

Here's to hoping. It's apparently been too long since Seagal shat himself.

Part of me wishes Seagal wasn't so egotistical that he would see Randy's coments for what they were. A joke that wasn't even really at Seagal's expense.

This is only because it's embarasing to see what Seagal has become. I mean, how messed up is that? The guy is such a farce he's uncomfortable to watch.

The other part of me just want's to see him get the trouncing he's asking for. An out of shape, out of practice semi retired stunt man vs. an in-shape, well practiced, semi retired MMA champion? (one of the greats no less!) Play fighting vs. real fighting?

Good lord! We haven't seen magic like this since UFC2!!!!!!

Seagal needs a Twinkie to motivate himself to get out of bed. What makes him think he can take on Couture?

Didn't Geen Labell kick his ass 30 years ago. This is ridiculous on every level. That being said I would pay money to see it.

He has seen his own movies so many times, he actually believes his **** would work in the real world. IMHO, it would not work against Van Damme, Gene Lebell and absolutely not Couture. This applies to twenty-five years ago, when he was at least in physical condition. At this point in his life, he is operating on sheer delusion.

Seagal is 60. He's not going to fight Randy Couture. Unless he's allowed to have Anderson Silva with him into the cage / ring / abandoned oil derrick built on an Inuit burial ground, sacred land that only a supremely narcissistic white man wearing at least 50 yards of fringed buckskin and a horrifying Eddie Munster / Cher hair "system" can truly appreciate and save.

I say he should be matched up with someone as close to his own age as can be found. How about Dan "The Beast" Severn?
