Can you show us where he said that he was a 5 time MMA champion? Its not in his bio, and that thread just says 5 time world champ (MMA not mentioned), and that was some random Internet guy saying he said it.

Perhaps I'm just getting all his credentials confused, but 5 time World MMA champion is how it reads to me because MMA is the first thing mentioned.

John Mason has an established reputation here in the KY karate tournament circuit. He has hosted the Blue Grass Nationals a couple years in a row now I think. Che-Lu (pronounced Chee-lee-you, don't ask me why) is his art. Evidently he created it from a blend of Goju, Taekwondo, and something else. He claims it is an independent system unlike anything else. I know he is well thought of in the community, and his school has been here for something like 2 decades.

I have seen a few of his students, and they do pretty standard "tournament karate". Flashy uniforms, bells and whistles, lots of jumping and loud screaming during kata. Don't know much else besides that.

Also, KSU (Kentucky State University) is located here in Frankfort. So that would make sense.

Apparently Kentucky has their own MMA hall of fame through www.kyfight.com

I can't find him there, but I'm guessing that's where he paid for, I mean earned, *cough* his induction... five times.
