there are still quite a few people who believe that "ju" (sorry no kanji) is the main principle/strategy in Judo, e.g., no force on force, always yielding. In a metaphorical sense, I can see the point. Most suffering is caused by resistance to the presence, but in a physical sense, resistance/non resistance have to be used as appropriate in the given situation, which is an extension/application of Seiryoku Zenyo.
Many of the aikidoka I've interacted with didn't get that either.

I did aikido for about a year when I was fourteen. My sensei was a gay, chubby middleaged man who also worked as a food critic and wrote books about astrology. He spoke in a deep, melodic voice when he preached the gospel of the aiki to us, his disciples. His hands were warm and his skin soft, yet his grip was firm and unyielding.
I shall never forget him, nor his teachings. -
