    All law enforcement settings are not created equally! :) So for me: to quell a disturbance, to prevent a person from commiting imminent harm to the officer, himself or others, to defend yourself when deadly force is aplicable, to prevent the escape of an inmate.

    The last one makes be chuckle only from my experiences as a Prison Officer, I'd have loved to have fucking shot a few of them fuckers :-)

    As long as you have probable cause. As the situation de-escilates, you always can de-escilate as appropriate.

    Yeah, inmates don't even walk close to the fence because they know their is an officer sitting their with his finger on the trigger, just itching for it.
