2 Loyd Irvin guys arrested on rape charges

Here's an interesting question, and I am presuming the two attackers are guilty because they were apparantly caught on video tape.

The victim was one of LI's employees and the two attackers were longtime students of LI.

There was a good chance that information about this rape was going to get back to LI, even if the victim did not go to the police. Why did the two rapists think that they wouldn't have problems with LI if and when he learned about the attack. Did they think he'd ignore what the victim claimed?

Beyond morality, and the issue of evil, why did these guys think they could get away with #$%^&*# where they trained. The implications are potentially quite damaging.

Just to clarify, I believe both attackers had been training with the Lloyd Irvin team for less than a year.

Sam, it may have been something like "she's so drunk, she won't remember <what happened/that it was me>" plus the ever-popular "I'll just say it was consensual", which as I've said elsewhere, would have worked pretty damn well if there wasn't incriminating videotape.

The BJJ community needs to make it eminently clear that not only is Mr Irvin's students' behavior completely unacceptable, but so is Mr. Irvin's. By this I mean he did too little too late. He should have immediately issued a statement after the incident that not only is rape a heinous and violent crime, but that it was made so much worse because the victim was raped by her team mates. HER TEAM MATES!

I'm sorry, but I simply can't fathom that breach of trust. I respect my team mates more than I do most humans because I literally sweat and bleed with them. I don't understand how anyone could abuse that trust in such a horrific manner.

I think what puts the final nail in the sleazy coffin is that he used his "apology" letter to further paint himself the victim of the "haters", say a lot of nothing, and try to sell you on him. If he loves the "haters' he's certainly earned one in me.

Agreed! My training partners are like family. They can call me any time and I will stop what I'm doing and be there for them.
