Sad...innocent until proven guilty, but it looks pretty bad.

Well, I'm certainly not a fan of Lloyd's latest marketing strategy...

I'm a horrible person =(
In all seriousness, it goes without saying this is a shitty event, and rapists are assholes. What a frustrating thing.

The really sucky thing abou that, to me is that the woman apparently knew the guys and probably felt secure being escorted by them. Then they turn around and do that. That sucks.

Just saw this pop up on my Facebook wall. Didn't notice anything about it on here yet, sounds pretty horrific based on the accusation itself. It's a shame that this is going to be tied to Lloyd Irvin just because they all trained there.

I just realized that someone posted this in YMAS as well, my bad on the duplicate!

Here's the pull quote:
...surveillance cameras captured Maldanado raping the woman and Shultz joining.
Notice that Maldanado (also spelled Maldonado) is not just some guy who does BJJ. He's a Lloyd Irvin up-and-comer. Nicholas also seems to be fairly accomplished in the sport. I'd like to hear their coaches, past and present, vehemently disassociate themselves from these two rapists, and show their support for the victim. Lloyd's statement at the moment is a paragon of PR, managing to appear sympathetic while exonerating himself and his school, saying nothing about the rapists who trained at his school. I would be happier with something to the effect of "if my students did indeed commit this sick attack, they are dead to me and should be expelled from the sport for life."
Maldonado is the 2012 IBJJF brown belt champion, interviewed here by Bloody Elbow. He teaches/taught in NYC and is all over the Alliance NYC website news page: "Mateo Maldonado aka pnut aka corn nut...[was] promoted to brown belt."
Congratulations to Matthew Maldonado who went to California and competed in the 2011 No-Gi World Jiu-Jitsu Championships. He took 2nd place in his weight class in a very controversial final match, losing to his opponent by 1 advantage. He than entered the absolute division, beat the rooster weight champion and then lost to the silver medalist of the ultra heavy weight division. He had a great showing and we are all proud of him at Alliance NYC.
...among other minor mentions. His Facebook page is getting slammed. He also goes by Mateo Maldonado on his YouTube page and "Mangusto" (for instance).
This is heinous for Brazilian jiu-jitsu, for all martial artists, and for the victim. Think of how destructive this is to anyone's trust in their teammates.

I also humbly suggest to Mr. Irvin that JESUS CHRIST TODAY IS THE WRONG DAY TO PROMOTE YOUR RAPE PREVENTION CLASS.
I'm sure this is in his marketing seminars: How To Make Lemons Out Of Lemonade - PR Responses For When Your Students Commit Felonies. He's quite literally trying to take this news story about two of his students raping someone and turn it into advertising for his services. That's mind-bendingly obscene.
(Yes I know the rape prevention classes are free. Everybody knows that, just like other methods of goodwill--like funding kid's soccer teams--they're also a form of advertising and a way to get people into your school.)

"Nick Schultz recently announced his departure from Lloyd Irvin for a new location in Maryland State correctional facility where he will be spending the next 15 to 20 years drilling rear mount escapes."
Seriously though I knew who Nick was in Houston guy was a cocky asshole, truly disgusting.
