I'm still all ears if others want to speak up, but I'm guessing you've hit the nail on the head. I suspect much of the interest from Brits on the subject of gun control is a mixture of equal parts envy and disgust.

Envy, because we have what we perceive to be a fundamental right to own all sorts of badass guns and we've been able to protect that right to this point. And it's a right you don't have, at least not to the degree we do. And disgust because you view us as a bunch of Hatfields and McCoys who run around slaughtering each other because we have highly evolved weapons and poorly evolved brains.

What do you think? Am I off base, or do disgust and envy drive much of the interest in the debate over the American cowboys and their guns?

I don't think your totally off base there.
In as much as anything is different from what we know those feelings are gna come up. I just don't think in those strong terms.

Like I said I'm curious..contemplating it 'as if' we had those rights I can see it both ways. Its close to the 'natural' state to bear arms, its also such a massive responsibility that its a relief to do without, if that makes any sense.

The fact no one else is likely to be so armed and I live in a 'civilised' society doesn't give me the pressure to want to carry guns, if they were more prevalant I would likely think differently, which is probably the root of the ' if you just ban guns you won't have gun problem arguments '.

I'm also aware that its nowhere in my historical make up to think having a gun is important or a 'right', so I don't feel i'm missing anything.

You def have a point there though, for some it might be morbid curiosity for others its '**** look at them badass toys!'

Still, people only talk about things that interest them in some way. I doesn't surprise me that they talk. It surprises me that it interests them at all. That's what I find curious.

I think he makes sense ( but I have shallow knowledge of the subjects). I think he misses the point that the Armed Forces could refuse to fire upon citizens..(a point Devil made), but he may well come to that in the follow up Videos.

This is purely for the selfish reason that I like to argue with friends, most of whom are of the ' dumb yanks should just ban guns ' mentality. So help me out here.
