I have a year of it myself, but I'll still stand by my point. I've never met a capoeirista who thought of himself as a fighter anyway. All the groups I ever played with considered themselves basically dance troupes.

Let's not forget what two Wing Chun practitioners look like fighting eachother:

Oh I agree 100%, I just enjoy occasionally enjoy being like LOLOLOL Capoeira has more deadly than teh ?ing ?un. I get skills from Capoeira that have helped me in knockdown karate, but by and large it's for performing and fun and doesn't even try to be teh deadly. Id still steer people to it before Chun and Aikido by and large though. Id be more likely to steer them towards Kyokushin, etc. than all the above though.

It's easy to see the craziness in retrospect but I suppose at the time there wasn't enough direct evidence to know any better.

Of course now that the evidence is in I find much less entertainment value in the arguments about its effectiveness.

    Why?
Actually it should be funnier. 80% of what they use is old school grappling and 10% flailing. Then they imply 100% of that is contained in wing chun.

Get in a fight, and use the stuff you know. If it works, let me know. Oh, make sure someone is there to revive you if you are messing with BJJ or Judo types, or wrestlers, and if messing with strikers, wear a cup, unless you like exploded testicles, or I guess if you got friends that like to beat the **** out of you, below the neck and above the balls. go for it.

Yeah...I knew a Capoeira instructor who could walk up and down a staircase on his hands, was about 5% body fat as a result of his training and was frighteningly fast, flexible and strong. That guy will wreck house on anyone who's not a fairly competent fighter in an alive art.
