Oddly, I was covering syncopated rhythms in class tonight. <shrug> I guess the Philippines isn't in the Orient.

I thought it was because sarama resonates with the facepunching centers of the brain.

I recommend continuing to be your polite, reasonable self, not fighting with the mods, and finding the conversations that interest you and where you have something to contribute. Making it clear up front when you aren't an expert about something is often useful.

There are a lot of people on this board who have a great deal of expertise on a remarkable range of subjects, including just about everything martial arts related and an incredible array of other topics. It can be a fantastic resource. Unfortunately, intellectual humility is in incredibly short supply and many members cannot bear to admit it when they are wrong, let alone to apologize. So, I, for one, appreciate your apology, though you never offended me.

Then again, I'm the kind of weakling who sometimes apologizes. You'll soon discover that this is the kind of site where members can take screening tests for narcissistic personality disorders, announce their almost-off-the-charts scores proudly, and then demand to know who these psychiatrists think they are to say that it is abnormal or bad in any way to have a healthy, positive self-image such as theirs without a twinge of irony, and they pretty much blend into the background.

There are a large number of cool, interesting, funny people to "talk" with here, but you may occasionally need some hip-boots to get through the machismo and self-adoration of a highly vocal and substantial minority.
I know you're referring to me, Chuck.

    Right.

While I have my notebook open, who gets The Girl From Ipanema: Capoeira or BJJ?

We talk about rhythm and metrinome almost every class! And I'm all about playing some drums while training!!

In Ancient China™, they used flams and rolls and sixteenths.

    SIXTEENTHS!

Obviously then, Lion Dance is superior to MMA and all other TMA, which use inferior timing.
