Don't worry Pat, you never die from working out hard. - Soke Kiyohisa Hirano
This was after a three hour instructor's class, 6AM to 9, that I'd talked my way into. We'd do 1/2 hour kata, 2 1/2 hours sparring drills and sparring one week and reverse the next week - that particular morning we'd done a new kata 18 times without a break and my legs had been shaking and I'd thought to myself, ****, I'm going to die."Preparing mentally, the most important thing is, if you aren't doing it for the love of it, then don't do it." - Benny Urquidez -

A TKD instructor had been guesting in Kyokuhshin and one day he said, "Thank you for what you told me about fighting spirit," to Sensei Del Griffiths. Later Del told me that the week before he'd talked to the TKD guy and got no response and he figured it took a week to sink in.
For the Japanese, fighting spirit is very important. - Del Griffiths (two time Hawaiian Open Champ).
Your days of speed and power are behind you. - Shihan Fred Perales
You've got to show them what it's like on the higher levels. - Patrick Smith (belted in Karate, TKD, and Judo), after beating up and repeatedly throwing down on hard wood floor a brown who was getting ready to test for black.Last edited by patfromlogan; 2/16/2013 2:23am at .

"If I see any of you leaning against a wall I will break your legs."
I haven't trained for years now but I love what he meant and it's application in everyday life. Even now if I'm exhausted, frustrated or hurt, I'll never show it in my body language. No leaning, no slumped shoulders, no wincing; just focused, alert and game face on."I'm reluctant to sound like a total fa66ot as well, but my background in sculpture gave me an edge in understanding how we're expected to move thru space." - The Other Other Serge -

"You need to work on your technique...you've got fighting spirit, but so do a lot of other guys. And if you get into the ring with a guy who has fighting spirit that equals your own and has superior technique - you are going to get owned."
