So it is not any where even close to being equivalent to the Swastika as EdgeWakler implied. Since it is used in a completely different context.
Basically its a symbol of an army that EdgeWater hates because of war crimes that happened before he was born. Gotcha.
The Rising Sun flag continues to be offensive because it is a symbol of Japanese imperialism that still continues to this day.

Im Jae Bum, a popular singer in Korea, shows off his Waffen SS uniform.

There was some public outcry demanding a formal apology. But Korea doesn't have a big enough Jewish community for it to even matter.

Boycott their products. Do not buy Nissan or Toyota.

Do not buy Hynudai or Kia.
It will make you feel better; you will not be supporting governments you consider to be imperialistic or oppressive.

Very much this. I don't presume to understand being in a fighting unit in war; I just try to listen to what they have to say in forming my opinion. I don't see how an armed soldier can presume to understand unarmed civilians with their families present facing unspeakable horrors during fighting or after the combat stops.

What makes Japanese imperialism any different than say British imperialism or Soviet imperialism? The Japanese still do fly the flag but they are hardly imperialist now so it looks to me that its hardly a symbol of their imperialism and just a symbol of their armed forces much like the US has Armed services flags also, these flags have also been used for things that many people would consider "imperialism".

I don't find the Waffen uniform offensive, hell I saw Jenna Jamerson use one in a porno that she shot, funny thing they actually censored out the swastika. I thought that was silly they should have left it in.

The uniform without context isn't offensive.

Here is a quote from one of my all-time favorite comedians, George Carlin. I try to avoid making fun of religions, no matter how far-fetched I believe their doctrines are. This can be directly applied to this discussion and to any others we may have disagreements on.

This is the internet, and it is all about opinions. If your opinion has a factual basis and cannot be disproved, that is wonderful. If it is the consensus of the members that it is bullshit, you will get flamed.

If my opinion isn't aligned with your opinion, debate me, prove me wrong, and I'll cut my losses and research more for the next one.
DO NOT try to shove the **** opinion down someone's throat. I respect everyone's right to have and voice their opinion. That does not mean that I will drink the Kool-Aid.

The FCC, the Federal Communications Commission, decided all by itself that radio and television were the only two parts of American life not protected by the free speech provisions of the first amendment to the Constitution. I'd like to repeat that, because it sounds... *vaguely* important!

The FCC, an appointed body, not elected, answerable only to the president, decided on its own that radio and television were the only two parts of American life not protected by the first amendment to the Constitution. Why did they decide that? Because they got a letter from a minister in Mississippi!

A Reverend Donald Wildman in Mississippi heard something on the radio that he didn't like. Well, Reverend, did anyone ever tell you there are two KNOBS on the radio?

    Two Knobs--On the radio.

Of course, I'm sure the reverend isn't that comfortable with anything that has two knobs on it. But hey, reverend, there are two knobs on the radio! One of them turns the radio OFF, and the other one CHANGES THE STATION!

Imagine that, reverend, you can actually change the station! It's called freedom of choice, and it's one of the principles this country was founded upon. Look it up in the library, reverend, if you have any of them left when you've finished burning all the books.

Most modern Japanese are NOT imperialists. They are nice people that get along with most other Asians. However, the extreme-right side of Japan, the kind of people that actually like to sport the Rising Sun flag, are essentially the Japanses version of the Neo-Nazi.

This video shows a good example of what Japanese extreme right wingers are like. They still seem to embrace the colonial ideals of the 19~20th century.

Given that I don't speak Japanese that video does me no good what so ever.

Go ahead and youtube the term Neo-Nazi,
You will see ARMED people that have training camps.
actively still terrorize everyone that is not a WASP, that still speak in extremely hateful rhetoric, and still honestly believe that anyone that isn't a WASP is actually subhuman.
Oh and the world wide population of Neo-Nazi's significantly outnumber the amount of Uyoku dantai in Japan.

When the Japanese military stops using the rising sun flag actively then maybe you can make some claim but as it stands someone who buys this Gi may simply be showing there support for the Japanese Military and not its imperial roots.

The more info I get the more I see it as sporting something similar to this T-Shirt
