How well would our underground electric transmission network against masive solar flare of doom?
Actually the more I think about it the big solar flare of doom is only likely to be a slight inconvenience.
80-90% of the wire ran would still be usable, rebuilding generators isn't super hard. A lot of the electronic systems we have are fairly emp resilient surprisingly. -

OK, here's another potential catastrophe... Global Pandemic.
Here's one of my favorites candidates, the Marburg Virus:
Note at about 1:30 how the virus quickly spread through the health care workers.
Imagine an infected person with a highly contagious lethal virus gets on a plane to a first world country. Then the passengers all disperse, maybe some get on other planes... This is the scenario that keeps Public Health Officials awake at night.
